Jesus has opinions

The recent election, political change, and our country’s future. These are on our minds these days. Inflation, crime, abortion, and the rise of the LGTB movement may or may not have much of an effect on your life, but they sure are concerns that can weigh on us.

But did you know that there are some things we don’t get to vote on? I’m not talking about politics, or local governmental issues. Let me put it this way: my son-in-law Kevin whispered something powerful to me after a recent prayer meeting:

“The Lamb on the throne, His eyes are flames of fire, and He has opinions.”

Jesus has opinions. He has the plan. He holds human history in His nail-scarred hands, and He is taking us all where He wants us to be.

The return of Jesus will change absolutely everything

You see, Jesus is REALLY returning. We don’t know the exact time or hour that Jesus will return, but we had better not forget about it. Or pretend that it is not important. His return will be cataclysmic. According to Revelation 6, some pretty devastating things will take place:

I watched as He [Jesus] opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Rev 6:12-14

Stars falling from heaven. Every mountain and island removed from its place. Have you ever been to the Rocky Mountains? Can you imagine those mountains being removed from their place?

What we see in these verses is the outpouring of God’s final judgment on the earth. Neither the earth nor its residents can ever go back to life as usual

Jesus giving His opinion

Revelation 6:15-17 is where Jesus shows his opinion about politicians, kings, the rich and famous, and the mighty armies of the earth.

Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” Rev. 6:15-17

Jesus delivers in this one quick blow a judgment that was preceded by warning after warning from His true servants, preachers and prophets year after year. His judgement puts an end to the great hypocrisy that covers the earth.  The thing that people strive after and work all their lives for (wealth, fame, and power) is crushed under the weight of His opinion.

Jesus has given everyone a chance. There has been 2000 years of preaching, building churches, printing Bibles, Christian books, global mission’s outreach, radio, TV, and now podcasting. The Gospel has been preached to the entire world.

What matters to the Lamb on the throne

Jesus has an opinion. He has a big idea that He wants the world to know about. He is coming for His church, His pure spotless bride. He is coming for a great wedding feast with those who endure, holding on to the promise of His return.

When Jesus’ opinion prevails

The change that Jesus promises starts instantly. The first thing He will do is transform us. We get new bodies that can never perish or be destroyed.

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 1 Cor. 15:51-52

Most importantly, when He comes, we will be transformed on the inside so that our character is like Jesus.

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. 1 John 3:2-3

So we will have new imperishable bodies and impeccable characters filled with righteousness, peace and joy.. We will leap over walls and bound over hills. We will not get stiff, get old, have cancer or strokes. Our hearts will be filled with joy and we will live in a beautiful city where we will see God face to face.

No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. Rev 22:3-4

My heartfelt response

I can only say, like the song of old:

Wow! What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see, what a day, what a day that will be!
